From June 24 to 26 more than 2,600 4-Hers and their chaperones will liven up the MSU campus with their energy for 4-H Exploration Days. This flagship event gives youth an opportunity to get a taste of college life and learn new things by taking a variety of classes and participate in events all over campus.
I’m not even going to begin to try to list all the people who work together to make this event happen. Let’s just say that from the organizers to the volunteer teachers to the bus drivers to the promoters, it’s an all-hands-on-deck event. And it’s one of my favorites. I take great joy in watching young people explore our campus—many for the first time. I’m often amazed at how quickly they figure out this complicated place, and past experience tells me that this is when many of them start thinking about college. And I’m awed by the commitment of the hundreds of volunteers, many of whom use their annual vacation to come and enrich this experience.
Thank you to all who help make Exploration Days a success. And if you’re on campus next week—whether for Exploration Days or something else—take a look around and marvel at the enthusiasm of today’s young people. It’s a site to behold—it’s our future.
