When I left my post as director of Michigan State University Extension in 2005, I never dreamed that I would be back in the same office in room 105 again nine years later. So many things have changed ‒ even the name of the building ‒ yet our core belief that Extension brings great value to Michigan remains the same.
During this 4th of July week, I can’t help but think about the importance of service. I think not onIy about those that have served in huge ways – risking their lives and some even losing their lives for our freedom ‒ but also those who serve in smaller ways – including all of the staff and faculty of MSU Extension who through research and extension reach out to help the residents of Michigan. I am both honored and humbled to be called back to service for this great organization. I’m looking forward to getting out around the state to see as many of you as possible over the next six months. I will do my best to represent you well. I only ask that you be patient with me as I learn.
I have already heard from many faculty and staff members as well as stakeholders. Thank you for welcoming me back with open arms.
As you can imagine, I am still getting settled in my office. I will have more updates for you next week including on the webinar on Monday. In the meantime, enjoy the holiday weekend.
